One highly sought-after choice these days is a setting that minimizes the amount of gold on the ring. By "gold," I mean you can substitute it with platinum or any other precious metal your ring is made of. Most commonly, these options are available in platinum, yellow gold, or white gold.

Prongs

The U-shaped setting is highly favored due to its resemblance to the letter "U" when viewed from the side profile. As a result, you'll notice a multitude of U's in this type of setting.

This setting resembles the letter H when viewed from the side, featuring a crossbar between the prongs, positioned just below the diamond's girdle.

Currently, among the various fancy-shaped stones, the emerald-cut diamond stands out as the most popular choice, closely followed by the oval-cut diamond.

Fancy-shaped diamonds typically have a lower per-carat price compared to round brilliant-cut diamonds. However, when it comes to crafting a diamond eternity band, sourcing identical fancy-shaped diamonds, such as the Emerald Cut or the old cuts, can be quite challenging. These shapes exhibit numerous variations. 

• Some ovals appear shorter and wider, while others are longer and slimmer. 
• Similarly, for rectangular Emerald Cut diamonds, one may possess an elongated shape resembling a tennis court, while another may have a slightly more squarish appearance.

In essence, the length-width ratio must remain nearly identical across the board.
